Last month, The Used announced plans to hit the road in the fall and now fans have gotten the reason behind the upcoming excursion. On Thursday (Sept. 7), the Utah-founded band announced plans to release their seventh studio album in the fall. The new record will be titled The Canyon and is set to hit stores on Oct. 27. The upcoming album will be released through Hopeless Records. According to press statement from the band, the new album is the “rawest, unadulterated and personal piece of art the band has ever released.” The band statement also explains that the 17-track album was recorded live to tape so that it would sound like the group was “on stage, without a backing track” resulting in a sound that was “unique and unlike anything the band has done before.”
Pre-orders for The Canyon are currently available here. The band is currently offering a slew of pre-order bundles that range the basic album to a mega bundle that includes a vinyl version of the album, a CD version of the record, and a digital download version of the album as well as a the record’s companion hardcover book, an enamel pin, a t-shirt, and a long-sleeve shirt.
In addition to confirming the title and release date for the upcoming album as well as unveiling the full track listing, The Used has also unleashed the music video for the record’s lead single, “Over and Over Again.” The over-five-minute clip begins with two people dressed up in skintight, white body suits tending to a mannequin laying in a bed. The “nurses” begin to take care of the mannequin which transforms into The Used’s frontman, Bert McCracken. Throughout the clip, the viewer is treated to medley of shots that include McCracken dancing with a headless body dressed in a blazer, the band having a very Alice in Wonderland-esque last supper, and a pair of interpretive dancers dancing their way throughout the clip. In support of The Canyon‘s October release, The Used will hit the road in late-October throughout November alongside the Daryl Palumbo-led Glassjaw. The tour will kick off on Oct. 27 at The Masonic in San Francisco and wrap up a month later on Nov. 29 at the Showbox SoDo in Seattle. The complete list of tour stops can be seen here while the full track list for The Canyon can be seen below.
The Canyon is the follow-up to The Used’s last studio album, 2014’s Imaginary Enemy. Before embarking on their 15-year anniversary tour in 2016, the band released their live album, Live & Acoustic at the Palace which was recorded live at The Palace in Los Angeles.
