After promising fans a brand new song last week, Muse has finally unveiled the new tune. On Thursday (May 18), the English band premiered their first new song in nearly two years, “Dig Down.” In conjunction with the release of the new song, the group also released the official, Lance Drake-directed music video for it. According frontman Matt Bellamy, the video was inspired by 80’s films such as Robocop, Running Man, and Aliens.
The music video follows a woman, played by activist/model Lauren Wasser as she tried to escape a high-security building. Watch the complete music video for “Dig Down” above. In the same interview with iHeartRadio, Bellamy reveals that not only did he write the song just a month ago, but that he wrote it to give people out their some optimism during this otherwise dark times.
“It is a new song. I just wrote it like about a month or so ago, a couple of months ago,” the singer admits with a chuckle. “It’s kind of like, we’re living in an unusual times at the moment, so I wanted to write a song that was sort of optimistic in its message. Like making people feel like they can get through anything in their life, any hard times, stuff like that, and its a very positive song.”
Prior to the song’s release, fans were under the impression that “Dig Down” would be a stand-alone single and not be part of a bigger record. During his chat, Bellamy revealed that not only will the new tune be featured on the new record, but that fans should expect two to three new songs from them this year with one scheduled for the end of the summer/beginning of fall.
“The new album probably won’t be until some time next year, but we’re going to put out at least two, maybe three songs this year and the same next year ahead of that.” To listen to the complete interview, head on over here.
