Gorillaz to embark on North American ‘Humanz’ tour

It’s been seven years since the Gorillaz hit the touring circuit and now, it looks like things are about to change. On Monday (April 17), the British virtual band made up of 2-D, Noodle, Murdoc, and Russel announced plans to this the road later this year, performing sporadically throughout the summer and fall months. The tour which is simply named the “Humanz tour” will kick off on July 8 at the Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island in Chicago and conclude during the weekend of Oct. 13-15 at the III Points Festival in Miami. The group’s performance at the Miami music festival is huge for South Floridan fans since it will mark the first time that the act steps (virtual) foot in Florida.

While the newly announced tour itinerary seems to feature a lot of solo shows, the group will also makes appearances at several music festivals throughout the summer months including Quebec’s Quebec City Summer Festival, San Francisco’s Outside Land Music Festival, Las Vegas’ Life Is Beautiful, and more. Tickets for the upcoming tour will go on sale beginning this Friday.

The 17-date tour will be in support of the Gorillaz’s upcoming new album Humanz. The new album, the follow-up to 2010’s The Fall, is set to be released on April 28. The act has already confirmed a slew of guest artists on the record including Grace Jones, D.R.A.M., De La Soul, Danny Brown, and Vince Staples. Currently, the band has released a total of five songs from the impending record including “Saturnz Barz” which features Popcaan, “Ascension” which features Vince Staples, “We Got the Power” which features Savages’ Jehnny Beth, “Andromeda” which features D.R.A.M, and most recently “Let Me Out” which feature Mavis Staples and Pusha T and can be streamed above.
