Sublime’s debut album is about to celebrate its 25th anniversary, so the remaining members of the group have decided to unleash a slew of goodies for their longtime fans to honor the occasion. On Tuesday (March 21), the California-founded band announced they will be reissuing 1995’s Badfish EP on vinyl for Record Store Day 2017 (April 22). This marks the second year the group has released something from their discography for the unofficial music lovers holiday. Last year, the band released their 1991 cassette, Jah Won’t Pay the Bills, on vinyl.
The Badfish vinyl will include the 40 Oz. to Freedom version of “Badfish” and “Don’t Push (Original)” as well as the live at Kommotion (Sept. 3, 1994) version of “Untitled Dub” on side A. The live at Kommotion (Sept. 3, 1994) version of “We’re Only Gonna Die for Our Arrogance” and “Roots of Creation” will be featured on the B-side of the vinyl.
When celebrating a record with a name like 40 Oz. to Freedom, it’s only fitting to release a beer and name it after the album and that’s exactly what Sublime plans to do. The group has teamed up with AleSmith Brewing Company to create a Mexican-style lager named “40 Oz. to Freedom.”
“It doesn’t taste like anything else,” drummer Bud Gaugh said in a statement. “The flavor is great and it has a craft beer flare with a true Mexican lager taste. This is the one!”
Late singer Bradley Nowell’s widow, Troy Holmes, added, “Being a beer lover, I’m so proud to partner with an elite world-class brewery like AleSmith and I know Sublime fans will absolutely love it! Like Bradley sang, ‘That second beer was such a turn-on.'”
A limited-edition batch of the beer will be bottled in 40 ounce containers and sold through the brewery as well as some yet-to-be-determined locations before they are nationally released as six packs.
As if the Record Store Day release and beer weren’t enough, the group will release their first authorize documentary which will reportedly tell the “real” story of the band. The film came together thanks to joint cooperation from Gaugh, bassist Eric Wilson, and the Nowell estate on the production end. As if that wasn’t enough Sublime on film, the group has also revealed that they are currently in the early stages of negotiations for a biopic about the band.
While Sublime hasn’t released any new music since 1996, the latest incarnation, Sublime with Rome, released their last studio album, Sirens, back in 2015. This summer, the group will hit the touring circuit alongside fellow Californians, The Offspring, for their massive co-headlining tour. The complete list of tour dates can be seen below.
