Halsey’s 2016 was a great one for the singer, but it looks like 2017 may give last year a run for its money. On Tuesday (March 7), the New Jersey singer took to social media to confirm the release of her sophomore album. Taking to Twitter, she revealed the album will be titled Hopeless Fountain Kingdom and will reportedly see a summer release.
Though she did not further elaborate on the specific date, Halsey did say that her second studio record will be released sometime in June of 2017. The news of her sophomore album comes on the heels of her, and The Chainsmokers, winning “Dance Song of the Year” at the 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards. “Closer” was a massive smash of a song that took home the title of “Summer Song of 2016.”
Hopeless Fountain Kingdom will be Halsey’s first set of new songs since the release of her debut album, 2015’s BADLANDS. Earlier this year, it was revealed that she had contributed a new song titled “Not Afraid Anymore” to the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack. During an interview with Beats 1, Halsey explained not only how the song came to be, but she also revealed that her new album was already in the works.
“With the exception of doing the ‘Closer’ collaboration, it was the first time I had written something organically for myself since I made Badlands and it’s creeping up on two years ago now. It was right before I started writing for my second record which I’m hoping to get out in the next couple of months or so. It was a good faucet opening,” she tells the digital media platform. “[And] also it’s especially hard to do something that feels unique and feels authentic especially for me because Fifty Shades [Darker] was almost too good of a pairing, too good of a brand mashup especially this film in particular because Fifty Shades Darks is kind of about Anna, the female character, coming into her own on her sexuality and owning it and choosing her freedom and choosing her quality over a life of submission. You know that’s very much the M.O. of my project, strong, sexual female mentality so it was almost too easy—I was like how do I do this?”
For now, Halsey fans will just have to keep an eye out for the songstress to confirm the release of her new album. Until then, you can watch her music video for “New Americana” above.
