Watch Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong’s film acting debut

We already know that Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is a singer, writer, guitarist, among other things, but now, the frontman can officially add “film actor” to his lengthy resume. For months, publications have been reporting about Armstrong’s venture into the film world with the upcoming indie release, Ordinary World (previously titled Geezer). On Thursday (Sept. 15), the first officially trailer for the movie was released (for those not present at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year).

In the two-and-a-half minute trailer, Armstrong plays Perry Miller; an ordinary man with an ordinary life, working at his family’s hardware store. He passes his days reminiscing about his life in his punk band which is currently in the middle of an indefinite hiatus. The film happens to take place around/on his 40th birthday which his wife and daughter forget about. Instead of wallowing in pity, his brother decides to help him celebrate the occasion by giving him money to throw a massive blowout at a fancy hotel which results in him not only destroying the place, but also thinking about life and where it’s going.

In addition to starring in the film, Armstrong also contributed original music which was exclusively written for the movie. Check out the clip for Ordinary World below, while we continue to hope that Armstrong’s band mates, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool, make some special cameos.

Ordinary World originally premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. After being acquired by Universal Pictures, the film was given an official release date of Oct. 14 at limited theaters around the country. For those not able to see it at their local megaplex, the film will also be released worldwide through OnDemand.

A week before the movie’s official release, Armstrong will have another debut on his hands. Green Day is set to release their 12th studio album, Revolution Radio, on Oct. 7 through Reprise Records. Following the album’s release, the group will hit the road for a lengthy tour across the country and overseas. The complete list of tour dates can be seen here.
