Islander announce new album, stream two new songs

It’s been a busy week for Islander and we’re only a couple of days in. On Monday (June 20), the South Carolina-founded band announced the release of their upcoming sophomore record, Power Under Control. In addition to the album announcement, they also premiered the first song off the record,”Darkness” (via Rolling Stone). On Tuesday (June 21), they kept up the good news by unleashing another new song from the impending effort; a track titled “Bad Guys” (via Loudwire).

While premiering “Darkness” with Rolling Stone, vocalist Mikey Carvajal revealed that the title for the new album not only came from the New Testament, but that the record is a concept album dealing with several characters. “Power Under Control is a concept album dealing with several characters. The songs stand on their own, but are meant to be listened in the same way that a book is to be read,” Carvajal  explained. “If someone were to skip the chapters in a book, the story may be exciting, but a lot of the meanings would be lost. If the listener wants to understand the meaning of each song, they can better be understood when listening as a whole rather than treating this as a buffet.”

The videos for both “Darkness” and “Bad Guys” can currently be streamed below while the complete track list for Power Under Control can be seen below that.

2. “Bad Guy”

Power Under Control is set to be released on Aug. 5 through Victory Records. The upcoming album is the follow-up to the band’s debut album, 2014’s Violence & Destruction. In support of the record, the group has a handful of shows lined up which include the Open Air Chicago pre-party in Chicago on July 14, the Rock USA Festival in Wisconsin on July 16, and the High Elevation Festival in Colorado on Sept. 10.
