If you though Bonnaroo had a cool way if veiling the artists for this year’s line-up, then Reading and Leeds might have a slightly cooler way of unveiling the third and final headliner for this year’s event.
The British festival took to Facebook to post anonymous letter which read: “Yeah, so I just woke up but like, I dunno, I just can’t stop thinking about Reading and Leeds and how much I’m looking forward to playing Reading and Leeds 2015.”
Everyone following were left to guess who the third headlining spot, alongside Metallica and Mumford and Sons, would be given to until Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show went live. During the show, it was revealed that the third headliner spot was given to The Libertines.
“Reading has always been a special festival to me, it’s where I misspent a lot of my youth. I saw Rage against the Machine there when I was a nipper, which inspired a lot in me. Zack de la Rocha set me on a path, he bridged the gap between my bedroom and Velvet Underground and Jimi Hendrix and the Doors and showed me what it really was to be up on that stage in front of all those people” frontman Carl Barat told NME about their big headlining gig.
“It’s pretty dizzying to be alongside Metallica, I used to love them when I was a kid. They were up there with Michael Jackson and James Dean.”
But while Barat and the rest of the Libertines (including a sober Pete Doherty, we hope) are headlining, a slew of over 50 more acts were also revealed including Kendrick Lamar, American Football, Panic! at the Disco, New Found Glory, Simple Plan, Bring Me The Horizon, Pierce the Veil, Frnkiero and the cellabration, and many more (though there are two special guests still unannounced).
Check out the complete line-up for Reading and Leeds 2015 slated to take place during the weekend of August 28-30. All information about the festival including tickets can be seen on their websites here and here.
