We know that we might be a little “late to the party,” but Paramore recently allowed fans to hear the deluxe version of 2013’s self-titled record in full earlier this week.
Included in the re-release was a never-before-heard version of “Hate to See Your Heart Break.” Another version of the song made its way onto the band’s album, but turns out this version of the song featured a special guest: Joy Williams of the now defunct Civil Wars.
At first it might seem a little odd to have the voice of a pop band and the folksy singer on a track together, but when you remember where Hayley got her start, it seems kind of like a no brainer that the two would collaborate on a song.
“When we met, I was 12 and Joy was like 18 or 19, I think,” Hayley said in a joint email on behalf of both her and Joy.
“I was already a fan of hers. It was fate that we became friends. She was always giving great advice and listening to songs I’d written or big plans I had about becoming a real artist.”
But even though they both went their different paths, they remained friends and Joy even admits that they have gotten a lot closer as friends.
“Our friendship has grown deeper as we’ve grown up, and I think we’ve gotten even closer in the last year,” Joy added.
“I’ve always loved how we’ve been able to pick up where we left off, no matter how long it’s been.”
