Neon Trees have been dropping hints over the past few weeks about a new single coming out and today, the band have officially dropped the song.
Over the past few weeks, the Utah-based band had been dropping cryptic messages via their social media accounts beginning with asking for fans in five distinct cities, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles, to RSVP for special surprise.
The surprise? The band revealed the new song titled, “Sleeping with a Friend” to those fans.
“Sonically speaking it’s our biggest-sounding song to date,” frontman Tyler Glenn revealed exclusively to Rolling Stone.
“That is probably because I was listening to a lot of Peter Gabriel’s So record. Those pop songs of his are so huge and great. However, this record is a lot more personal in nature overall. I mean, how much more personal can you get than sex? This is not a sex song the way ‘Blurred Lines’ is . . . It’s the kind of sex song that isn’t this S&M, Rihanna-fueled fantasy world, but something a lot more intimate and therefore dangerous.”
The band also revealed that “Sleeping with a Friend” is the lead single off their new album, Pop Psychology, due out on April 22nd.
Until then, check out the new song below.
