Avicii to Release Debut Album in September

The whole world already knows about Swedish DJ, Avicii (aka Tim Bergling) for his hit song, “Levels,” but even though the song had been a major hit on the radio and even appeared on music charts, you’d be amazed to know he hasn’t even released a studio album yet.

Avicii, who’s played the mainstage at Ultra Music Festival two years in a row, has announced that he will be releasing his debut album on September 17th. The new album will be titled, #True (yes, with a hashtag). This past March, while performing at UMF, the DJ played some of the new tracks from the album which surprisingly is not just straight EDM (electronic dance music).

“Disruption is good when a scene is half stuck,” Avicii said of the mixed reactions the audience had about his set. “We wanted to bring 15 minutes of something fresh to break [Ultra] up. We knew people would be provoked.”

The new album will feature a wide variety of guests which help make it unique, rather than the same style of music for an entire album. Mac Davis, Incubus’ Michael Einsinger, and recent Daft Punk collaborator, Nile Rodgers will all be featured on the album; not the typical people to be associated with EDM.

But even though this is his first album, there’s another first to come along with it; the first time PRMD Music and Island Records will work together. Both labels have joined forces to co-release the DJ’s debut which is funny since Avicii is currently signed to Island Record while his manager is a boardmember for PRMD Music.

But no matter what the DJ finished his interview with Billboard by saying that he has nothing to prove with this album. If people love it, they love it and if they don’t he doesn’t mind that either.

For now, you can check out one of his new tracks, “Wake Me Up” which will hit radio and iTunes on June 25.
