Every year NME, the British based magazine, holds a fan voted award ceremony giving artists shots at winning an award from one of the 22 categories that they have. Taking place Wednesday at the Troxy in London, the awards had artists from different genres take several of the awards home with them. Comedian Russell Kane hosted alongside the likes of MIA, The Rolling Stones, Tame Impala and Haim.
Winners of the evening included Muse for having the best fans around (I can attest to that), The Killers for being the best international band to rock in the UK as well as hottest man who just so happens to be engaged to Kate Hudson (yes you, Matt Bellamy). The biggest blow of the evening was not for the people who enjoy bands such as The Rolling Stones, but those One Direction fans who had to find out that everyone else thinks they are the worst band of the year.
But in a twist that even the biggest anti-One Directioner should give kudos on, Harry Styles thanked the magazine for naming him ‘Villain of the Year.’ While Styles and his group aren’t exactly the best musicians in the world, naming him biggest villain is a bit harsh especially if it was solely based on his three minute relationship with Taylor Swift. But then again, no one will ever know what the real reason was for naming the boy bander ‘Villain of the Year.’ Maybe next year his ex will win this awards for breaking hearts and writing mediocre songs about it.
