Stone Temple Pilots Terminate Lead Singer

STP

UPDATE: Scott Weiland has released a statement about his firing:

“I learned of my supposed ‘termination’ from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be “terminated” from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday.”

The Stone Temple Pilots are on member short now. Word has surfaced that the band has fired their frontman, Scott Weiland. The band released a statement through their publicist, Kymm Britton, saying that the band has terminated the rocker:

“Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.”

While it seems a little harsh coming from a band that he has been a part of since the days of grunge, it shouldn’t come as a surprise considering all the trouble Weiland has gotten into. In 2002, the frontman got into an altercation with guitarist, Dean DeLeo, that made them stop all band activity, but that didn’t matter to Weiland since he had his other band, Velvet Underground to fill in the time.

Weiland has been one of the core members of the band since its beginning in 1986, but funny enough, yesterday he had told Rolling Stone magazine “STP has not broken up. I haven’t quit. I haven’t been fired.”

Burn.

But rumors started circulating about his termination back in December when Slash, Weiland’s band mate in Velvet Underground, revealed in an interview with Minneapolis’ radio station, 93X, that the frontman had been fired from the band.

In 2008, STP reformed after a five-year hiatus and toured all last year, but don’t worry for Weiland, the rocker is set to start a sold out tour next month.
